Best Bungee Jumping in Rishikesh: Price, Height & Complete Guide

Introduction

Standing on a cantilever platform suspended 83 meters above a rocky riverbed will test your nerves like nothing else. I remember looking down at the Heval River near Mohan Chatti, my knees shaking inside my harness, wondering why I paid money for this existential crisis. But the second you step off that ledge, free-falling toward the gorge, it’s pure, unadulterated adrenaline.

Bungee jumping in Rishikesh isn't just an activity; it's a rite of passage for travelers exploring India's adventure capital. Run by Jumpin Heights—set up by former Indian Army officers—it features New Zealand-standard safety protocols that put even the most anxious jumpers at ease. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned thrill-seeker, this complete guide breaks down everything you need to know about prices, heights, logistics, and insider tips.

Quick Facts About Bungee Jumping in Rishikesh

Before you book your ticket, let's look at the hard facts. Knowing the exact dimensions and operational details helps you set the right expectations.

• Location: Mohan Chatti village, about 25 km from Rishikesh city center.
• Height: 83 meters (approx. 272 feet), making it India's highest fixed-platform bungee jump.
• Operating Agency: Jumpin Heights (founded by ex-Army officers Col. J.S. Dhillon).
• Safety Standards: Designed by David Allardice from New Zealand, adhering strictly to Australia and New Zealand safety standards (AS/NZS 5848:2000).
• Operating Days: Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesdays for maintenance).

Pro Tip: Book your jump slot online at least two weeks in advance, especially if you're visiting between October and March. Walk-ins are rarely accommodated during peak weekends.

Best Time to Visit

Rishikesh welcomes travelers year-round, but your experience depends heavily on the season. If you want clear skies and pleasant weather for adventure sports, aim for the cooler months.

Spring and autumn offer the crispest mountain air and ideal visibility. Monsoon season brings lush green landscapes, but jumping operations can temporarily halt if heavy rainfall compromises visibility or structural safety.

Weather Guide

Here's a month-by-month breakdown of what to expect weather-wise when planning your jump.

How to Reach Bungee Jumping in Rishikesh

Getting to the Jumpin Heights site requires a bit of planning since it's located outside the main town.

• By Air: The nearest airport is Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport (DED), located about 45 km away. From the airport, you can hire a private taxi directly to Mohan Chatti.
• By Train: Haridwar Junction is the major railhead, 45 km from Rishikesh. Alternatively, you can take a local train to Rishikesh station, then grab a cab.
• By Road: Jumpin Heights operates a dedicated bus service from Tapovan in Rishikesh. Booking a seat on their official shuttle bus costs around ₹500 to ₹700 return and saves you the hassle of haggling with local auto drivers.

Getting Around

Once you're in Rishikesh, navigating the town is straightforward. Shared auto-rickshaws run frequently along the main arterial roads between Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula for ₹20 to ₹30 per seat.

If you're heading up to Mohan Chatti for your jump, public transport is scarce. Your best bet is renting a scooter from rental shops near Tapovan (costing about ₹400 to ₹600 per day) or booking a private cab for the half-day trip.

Top Things to Do

While bungee jumping is the main event, Rishikesh offers plenty of other activities to round out your itinerary:

• Giant Swing and Flying Fox: If you're at Jumpin Heights, you can bundle your bungee trip with the Giant Swing (run off the same platform) or the Asia's longest Flying Fox.
• White Water Rafting: Tackle the roaring rapids of the Ganges, ranging from Grade I to Grade IV, starting from Shivpuri.
• Attend the Ganga Aarti: Witness the spiritual spectacle at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan at sunset.
• Yoga and Meditation: Unwind after your adrenaline rush by taking a drop-in yoga class at world-renowned ashrams like Beatles Ashram or Rishikesh Yog Peeth.

Hidden Gems & Off-the-Beaten-Path

Want to escape the tourist crowds? Check out these lesser-known spots:

• Patna Waterfall: A short trek through the jungle leads to this hidden cascading fall, far less commercialized than Neer Garh.
• Kunjapuri Temple at Sunrise: Located 27 km uphill, the sunrise views over the snow-capped Himalayan peaks are unmatched.
• Garurchatti Waterfall: A peaceful spot ideal for a quiet afternoon read away from the bustling town center.

Accommodation Guide

Where you stay depends on your travel style. Tapovan is the hub for backpackers and cafe hoppers, while Shyampur offers quieter resort stays.

• Budget: Live Free Hostel or Moustache Rishikesh offer fantastic social vibes and dorm beds starting at ₹500/night.
• Mid-Range: Hotel Divine Resort & Spa offers comfortable rooms right by the river for around ₹3,500/night.
• Luxury: Aloha On The Ganges provides premium amenities, infinity pools, and direct river views starting at ₹8,000+/night.

Where to Eat

Fuel up before your jump or celebrate surviving it at these local favorites:

• Little Buddha Cafe: Perched on a cliff overlooking the Ganges, famous for wood-fired pizzas and smoothie bowls.
• Freedom Cafe: A bohemian hotspot in Tapovan known for great coffee and vegan-friendly options.
• Chotiwala: A legendary landmark near Ram Jhula serving traditional North Indian thalis.

Budget Breakdown

Here is a realistic cost estimate for a 3-day adventure trip to Rishikesh, including your bungee jump.

Packing Checklist

Don't head to the jump site unprepared. Pack these essentials:

• Comfortable athletic wear or shorts (avoid loose skirts or dresses).
• Secure sneakers or running shoes (flip-flops are strictly not allowed for jumpers).
• Sunscreen and sunglasses for the outdoor platform wait.
• Valid government-issued photo ID (mandatory for registration).
• GoFundMe or action camera mounts if you want to capture your expression during the plunge (though Jumpin Heights sells professional video packages).

Safety Tips & Common Mistakes

Common Mistake: Eating a heavy meal right before your jump. The G-force and sudden drop will guarantee a bad time. Eat a light snack at least two hours prior.

• Weight Limits: You must weigh between 40 kg and 110 kg to jump.
• Medical Clearances: If you have back problems, heart conditions, high blood pressure, or recent surgeries, disclose them honestly. Staff members conduct rigorous health checks on-site.
• Don't Look Down: When you reach the edge, listen to the jumpmasters. Focus on the horizon rather than the river far below to curb your hesitation.

Nearby Attractions

Extend your trip by visiting these nearby destinations:

• Haridwar: Just 30 minutes away by road, famous for its bustling ghats and evening Ganga Aarti.
• Devprayag: Where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers merge to form the holy Ganges.
• Rajaji National Park: Perfect for a wildlife safari to spot leopards, elephants, and spotted deer.
